Physical Therapy for Poor Posture
Poor posture is something that many of us suffer from in day to day life. Poor posture can lead to neck and upper back pain, headaches, and at times nerve pain in the upper extremities. Poor posture is particularly prevalent when one is sitting for most of the day working on a computer.
Common symptoms associated with poor posture include rounded shoulders, overly rounded upper back (known as kyphosis), forward head, tightness in the front of the chest (pectoral muscles), and tightness in the back of the neck (cervical muscles).

Physical Therapy Can Help!
Physical therapy can be utilized to improve posture via postural and ergonomic education and postural strengthening and stretching. Incorporating these practices in your day to day life can help alleviate current pain and also prevent pain from occurring in the future. Physical therapy intervention may include:
- Postural muscle strengthening and stretching
- Education on desk set up for work
- Education on postural awareness during the day
- Manual therapy
- Modalities as needed
